WHAT’S “A WAY AWAY”?

“A Way Away” is a conceptual candle brand on the mission to shorten the gap between loved ones in long-distance relationships. 
Through personalized candles inspired by the scent of each partner, the brand combats the common challenge experienced by couples when separated from one another: missing the comforting scent of each other.

Overview
MY ROLEAs the brand designer, I conceptualized the visual identity for A Way Away’s branding to ensure consistency through marketing & visual content promoted by the brand. 

THE OBJECTIVETo develop an end-to-end brand guideline and to design final deliverables across digital and print channels such as social branding on Instagram, primary & secondary packaging, and a desktop homepage.

Rules establishing visual brand consistency across digital & packaging interfaces

Cultivating optimism by striking a balance between grounded & playful elements.
Being in a LDR relationship is tough and A Way Away gets it. Understanding that LDR couples are experiencing a difficult period of being away from one another, the brand messaging emphasizes deep compassion while incorporating light-hearted components to convey confidence and optimism.

Logo

Color Palette

Expressive and abundant. Bright, warm tones paired with earthy tones to evoke the senses of smell and to reflect the optimistic but grounded nature of the brand. 

Typography

A dynamic blend between an elegant serif and monospace fonts to bring an elevated, but playful edge to the brand.

Primary + secondary candle packaging

A core part of A Way Away’s visual identity resides in how the elevated, high quality formulation of candles can parallel the high quality of life that invaluable relationships bring into peoples’ lives.

Socials

Digital assets for Instagram + Desktop interfaces
Evoking intimate, introspective, & soothing feelings in the viewer. 
Candid depictions of lovers immersed in nature capture an “in-the-moment” shot to reflect the natural themes of the brand & invoke the senses of smell. Close-up images of abstract textures inspired by the illusive visuals of smoke represent the dream-like emotions of romance & memories. Shots of candles with selective, dark lighting utilized to visually convey the intimacy found in relationships.
