WHAT’S “BERKELEY INNOVATION”?  

Berkeley Innovation is UC Berkeley’s first student-run design organization since 2003.
As a Human-Centered Design consultancy, BI is passionate about implementing design thinking with clients such as Netflix, Pinterest, Patagonia, Equinox, and Logitech on projects ranging from physical to digital products, brands, and experiences.

Overview
MY ROLEMy role as a Director of Marketing in Berkeley Innovation involved spearheading the creative direction behind the Spring 2024 semester recruitment campaign & exclusive merch package for its 60 active consultants and officer board members. 

THE OBJECTIVEI was tasked with designing the Instagram posts and flyers at the front of Berkeley Innovation’s marketing presence. In addition, I designed cups, apparel, & stickers as part of the semester merch package.

Much like vegetables and fruit, we are different but growing together.
The theme “GROWING TOGETHER” originates from the central idea of how impactful design innovation is cultivated at the intersection of unique perspectives.

Where the framework of our differences strengthens us more than pushes us apart, our desire to create impactful design facilitates a community in which we elevate & learn from one another by celebrating our differences. We are empowered by the fun mission to help the world through design and to grow stronger together!

INTERACTIVE FLYERS: CREATING CONVERSATION THROUGH A PIECE OF PAPER.



How can we catch the attention of students passing by when reading a text-heavy flyer inherently creates a stagnant, one-sided conversation between the flyer and the reader?
 

Instead of force-feeding readers with information, our interactive flyers utilizes the concept of word games to encourage readers to actively engage with written information and facilitate information processing about our organization’s mission and recruitment process.

AMPLIFYING THE VOICES OF UNDERREPRESENTED MINORITIES (URM)

Recognizing the systemic barriers that URMs face when breaking into the Tech industry, our marketing initiatives spotlighted the stories of BI members coming from first-gen, low-income, or LGBTQ+ backgrounds

By sharing their personal journeys into design & their experiences within BI, we aimed to break down the intimidation of entering design in Tech & promote the organization’s commitment to elevating underrepresented voices
